Mindfulness is an integral part of Joyce Curnan’s life and has been since seriously embarking on the path in the 2000s. In 2010 she became a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher and has since been offering mindfulness courses to groups in business, primary and secondary schools, university, and the general public. American-born and a resident of the Netherlands since 1989, Joyce loves to travel, meet, and learn from fellow beings. Her understanding of mindfulness deepened through practice and courses in (self-)compassion, interpersonal mindfulness, mindful schools, and the first MMTCP. Now finishing the Insight Dialogue (ID) teacher development program, she leads ID daylongs and weekend retreats. The interface between Buddhism and neuroscience—especially relating to trauma—is her current focus.
Joyce’s mentoring style is encouraging, involving cultivating conditions for growth and joyful learning with structure, a “light touch,” evidence-based learning, boundless curiosity, and humor. Her intention in life: to live wholeheartedly and with kindness.
