Ronya Banks: founder of the Asheville Insight Meditation center in Asheville, North Carolina, USA. She is passionate about mindfulness, as evidenced by 35 years of intensive meditation practice, two years on retreats, and experience as a Theravada Buddhist nun. A graduate of the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader program, she considers Jack Kornfield, Chanmyay Sayadaw, and Joseph Goldstein her teachers.
Born in Kuwait of Palestinian descent and Islamic faith, Ronya values justice and equality for people of all genders, races, and religions. A published Buddhist author and third-time MMTCP mentor, she has taught meditation and Buddhism in-person, globally online, and in corporate and academic settings. She has led silent vipassana meditation retreats to people from across the world. Her teaching style is characterized by her authentic, easy-going personality as she helps people synthesize complex topics into easily digestible pieces. Besides 25 years’ business experience, her greatest joy has been as a parent.
