I have been practicing meditation for 40 years in the Zen tradition and with the nuns and monks of the Theravadan lineage of Ajahn Chah, spending four years in residence at Zen Mountain Monastery and 16 years studying closely with Thich Nhat Hanh. Under Tara Brach and James Baraz, I completed the Community Dharma Leadership Training at Spirit Rock. In 1997, I attended the MBSR training course and have taught MBSR in Northern California at a domestic violence resource organization. Since 2009, I have taught mindfulness and lovingkindness meditation programs in hospitals.
My work includes serving as a meditation instructor in hospitals and at senior centers, working as a hospice RN and licensed acupuncturist for hospice patients and in private practice. I support social and environmental justice work. I value meditation practices that are body-based, energy-based (yoga and qi gong), and that are grounded in lovingkindness. I encourage bringing faith, curiosity, and kindness to meditation practice and to life.
