La Sarmiento (they/them) has been practicing vipassana meditation since 1998. They are the board president and a retreat teacher with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, DC (IMCW), the guiding teacher of the IMCW People of Color and LGBTQIA+ Sanghas, a mentor for the MMTCP, and a graduate of the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader training program. La has led day-longs and retreats for teens, young adults, women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and everyone in between throughout the US since 2010, including several with Tara Brach!
As an immigrant, nonbinary Filipinx American, La’s own personal journey of self-acceptance and transformation empowers their mentees to trust their practice and life experiences to embody what they teach.
